Water cooled engines need antifreeze, but be careful because the kind you use for cars and the kind for motorcycles are extremely different.  A car has cast iron blocks and the anitfreeze made for it has tiny glass beads in it.  Motorcycles use aluminum blocks, and those glass beads will hurt your system.

Oil has similar issues.  Car oil is different than motorcycle oil.  Do not mix and match!  It is recommended 10/40 motorcycle oil for liquid cooled engines and 20/40 or 20/50 motorcycle oil for air cooled.  Make sure you get it changed out every 2500 miles.  Doing just this will cut your repair bills considerably.
