UNHEALED CUTS AND BURNS that have formed a scab are best treated with the right oil or medicated cream—make-up can seep into the opening and make it worse, or dry out in patches and look powdery around the wound. Make sure your hands are clean at all times, and wear a protective covering while doing housework until the skin tissues are well on their way to healing. Old scars, however, can be hidden with makeup. You may need to use more than one shade to even out any skin tone discoloration.
Tincture of arnica is ideal for taking the blackness out of bruises, and really does lighten the damaged area. Alternatively, you could try applying cold compresses or rubbing ice cubes tied in a handkerchief over the area.
Vitamin E oil should always feature in the medicine chest. Just a few drops applied each night to a cut or open wound will help the healing process. Vitamin E capsules can be used if you prick them open with a pin first and use the oil inside.
Camouflage make-up is ideal to hide any discolorations. It should be applied with a dampened sponge, after you have rubbed a little unscented moisturizer over the mark. Make sure the colour of the make-up suits you.
