Your tyres should be inflated to the correct pressure at all times. Don't be fooled by the way they look — check them every week when cold. Replace any tyre that has any smooth bars across the threads. These are wear indicators and they are telling you that it is time to change the tyre. A worn tyre has poor traction, especially on wet roads. Tyre life can be extended by avoiding fast starts, stops and turns. Check your tyres regularly for weak spots, cuts, blisters, slow punctures and uneven wear. Uneven wear can indicate a problem with the cars wheel alignment, balance or tyre inflation. Tyres worn in the centre are a sign of over inflation, worn edges show under inflation and wear on one edge only indicates that your car either has poor wheel alignment or worn shock absorbers.
