There is a whole host of agents, go-betweens and others who become instrumental in the meeting between the professional man and his customer. These go-betweens are not always mercenary persons and may, more often than not, be prompted by humane considerations. In the professional world, these persons are sometimes invaluable and even indispensable, because through them the down-and-out person may get in touch with the most competent man in the line. The professional should not decry the intermediary nor should the client shake him off as somebody superfluous or unwanted. On their part, these intermediaries are not to forget their own self-respect. If they play one principal against another to gain momentary benefits, they may lose their name and foothold in the field. They have to be in the clear and the advice that they give has to be genuine and effective. Those who shine in the working world as intermediaries may forget themselves as such or the slur, that the layman may sometimes cast on them unknowingly. They may pursue their vocation with ardour and straightforwardness with the sole aim of benefiting the community whom they serve.
Just as in the business world every single person counts, so also in the professional field everybody connected with the trade or deal commands his or her importance. Cooperation and fellow-feeling should be present all along the line from the professional himself to his customer and then onward to everybody who has a small or big say in the matter.
The professional who establishes this team-spirit in and among the whole retinue of persons who are connected with his issue would naturally be regarded as more enlightened than another who is ignorant and this goes for the intermediaries as well on whom lies the burden of increasing the prestige of the calling.
