Toasting Blunders

1. If you are being toasted, sit there calmly, and thank your host later.

2. If you have to toast, do not read from any paper. Let it be either extempore, or commit it to memory.

3. Do not make your toast long; let it be short and apt.

4. If you are the guest of honour, do toast the host in return, either soon after the host has toasted, or during dessert.

5. Do not tap the rim of your glass to get everyones attention.

6. If you are a teetotaler, make a toast with any other soft drink, for it is the thought that counts.

7. You can toast for more than one person, for example, a whole team or an entire family.

8. Do not pre-empt, but allow the host to be the first one to toast.
