Common mistakes for golfers

If you watch on any given day at your local course you’ll see a lot of the same mistakes being made over and over again. It might be hitting shots to thin and smashing them over the green or slicing the ball off into the woods. These are all issues we face as beginners and need to overcome to keep our enjoyment level high. So let’s start off with likely the biggest issue we all have the slice.

Basics of the Golf Swing: Slice

We won’t get to deep into why the golf slice occurs, but put simply your club is not square to the ball when at impact. This causes a spin to be put on the ball and of course it curves off to the right. There are a few golf swing basics you should consider in order to before seeking the help of a professional golf swing instructor.

The slice occurs because the golf swing path isn’t correct. In order to cure the slice golf swing there are a few areas we need to consider. The first and easiest to work with is the golf swing grip. Most golfers who slice don’t have a strong enough grip on their club. I don’t mean how strong you hold the club but actually how your hands are positioned. If you look down at your upper hand and you cannot see three knuckles turn your hand in towards yourself until you can. This grip will help your club face close faster during the down swing helping the club face come square to the ball during golf swing impact position.
