Hotel Reception

Receptions are mainly held in big and known places and hotels are very convenient places for holding these. For one thing, all the required services like those of the serving personnel, accessories and implements may be supplied by the hotel and there is no running about for the same. One difficulty with a hotel reception is that the party holding the reception has to get acquainted with every nook and corner of the hotel because so many emergencies may arise when the holder of the reception has to come to the help of one who may need such help. This urgency is more to be taken care of because in a hotel, as different from any other building or place which may be hired for the reception, there may not be much opportunity to stay back for a continued survey.

The holder of the reception, therefore, should take all the important people along who are to supervise the reception and afford them full opportunity to have a complete idea of the hotel hall where the reception is to be held. How the food is to be served, where and when, the washing-place, the toilets (for gentlemen and ladies), the exits and the entrances, and all kinds of details have to be known by those who are in charge of the reception.'The holders of the reception, that is, the host, the hostess and party should be at the hotel sufficiently before the time fixed for the reception, because nobody can predict what things would be left undone or be missing at the last moment.

Behaviour at a hotel reception is inclined to be a little more on the formal side than if the same is held at a private house. This is so because the prestige of the party in relation to the hotel is to be kept in mind. The guests, when they receive the invitation to attend a reception at a hotel have to be particularly careful because apart from the reception party itself, there are rules of the hotel concerned which cannot be violated, and these rules may be the more stringent, the better and more famous a hotel is. Care must also be taken to preserve the furniture and fixtures of the hotel intact or the burden of compensation may fall on the host in case of breakages and other mishaps.
