A person may not take a certain type of food, he may not wear certain types of dress and adornments, he may not do something on a certain date, he may depend sometimes on certain rituals. All these are the individual's idiosyncrasies and the inclusion of these in the realm of manners is necessary because when stretched to extremes.

idiosyncrasies may be tantamount to very bad manners. There are all kinds of superstitions associated with these idiosyncrasies and the weaker a person becomes under these influences, the stronger his idiosyncrasies become. This growth of idiosyncrasies in a certain person may be attributed to his secret fear and instability in life and it may not be easy to remove these minor prejudices unless the original fear or instability is also removed. It may be noticed that these things may grow later in life than in youth when a man's possibility for success may be immense.

Youth is thus the period for the removal of idiosyncrasies. This is the time when with a little admonition or conscious effort and introspection the small and big prejudices may be easily eliminated, because in youth they may be prompted by unconscious emulation and nothing else. Idiosyncrasies always stand in the way of a man's complete self-fulfilment, and a man of ambition or idealism has to keep off from all such superfluous burdens. Besides evoking laughter and pity in others where a person blindly follows a superstition or an idiosyncrasy, adherence to these insignificant mannerisms may lead him to cause hurt to another, where he may refuse the light for his smoke because he happens to be the third person at the burning match-stick's end, or he may not take the proffered biscuit because it happens to be the last one on the plate, or he may make no payment because it is a certain day of the week, etc. Apart from the strangeness of the person if we consider the amount of explanations in all these small and simple acts and their possible effects on others, we may realise how important it is to cleanse our minds of such cant and superstition so that we may be'able to lead a normal social life.
