There may be a whole lot of other people of undefinable category with whom the traveller has to deal. There may be the agents of a product or agency, the sellers of goods, private guides and persons belonging to some such class. There may also be freelancers or interviewers who may be contacting travellers for some information or other. Then there are coolies, gatekeepers, hotel and room attendants. If the traveller is alone, he may have nobody to depend upon unless he can requisition the assistance of the hotel authorities or any other authority which may be under obligation to help tourists. The traveller has to acquire a mature character showing enough confidence during the course of the journey. If he fails in this objective and remains immature and dependent even at the end of all his travels, there may be nothing that may be said in his favour. This confidence should become ingrained in him and he should not try to show off or prove his superiority nor should he sound overconfident or become talkative or too easy for intimacy. It is his own reasoning that the traveller has to depend on ultimately and he may keep this reasoning clear if he adopts the middle course and behaves neither too showily nor with too much secrecy. He has to maintain a firm but civil tone, and has to examine every proposition and give every proposal his' careful thought before acting in accordance with it. One thing which any tourist of reason and good judgment should avoid is a very good or trickle-toffee proposal for any stay, food arrangements or conducted tours, etc. In this respect, it would be somewhat better for him to move with the crowd than to do something totally on his own. The way of the majority may not be outstanding but it may be the average way replete with all comforts and considerations that may be expected commonly. To get to something outstanding, the traveller would do well to get the help of some person or persons in whose bonafides he has trust. In the matter of tipping also, travellers have to be somewhat cautious and if they tip more or if they do the contrary, both these things may go against them. It is, therefore, necessary for a traveller to get maps, charts and other information, etc. about the place from some reliable source before dealing with or engaging the services of others in a new place.
