There is beauty and grace in good manners and these are appreciated almost everywhere. What is particularly soothing to a person whp possesses good manners and faultless etiquette is his self-confidence. He will seldom be ruffled by others. He is the master of the situation in which he may find himself. The odds of his encounters do not frighten him. He also has an advantage over others because it may be quite possible that people will have to give him, even grudgingly, precedence and follow his example. In most cases, however, he may generate in others enough respect and admiration, and possibly, also, love, and give him, literally, the right of way in nearly all situations.

The satisfaction that is caused by a well-behaved person belongs not only to the person himself but the other party or parties with whom the former may come in contact. The other name of this satisfaction is pleasure and relief in knowing that the status quo of any given situation would be maintained without express directions and interventions. From this relief, other natural feelings like mutual appreciation and fellow-feeling grow and it is for this that many a gentleman-crook wins the hearts of the people he contacts with the help of extremely good behaviour, politeness and civility. Such incidents happen because the person concerned may rouse the feeling of gratitude in others and so the help or the trust that he may be getting may be genuine and inspired by a deep understanding. The well-behaved person will naturally try to avoid all unpleasant incidents not because he is afraid to face or live upto them but because such things destroy, for ever, some of the style and beauty of living which once disrupted may not be capable of being captured again. This feeling for form and correct attitude in life can be made to reflect in others whom the well-mannered man may meet. Even if these others are used to the crude ways of life, a well-mannered person can quite easily harp on their inner human strings to produce harmonious music which is the guiding principle of living side by side with accord.
