Inbound And Outbound Rules In Firewall

If you select the Inbound or Outbound rules options on the left side of the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security console, you are presented with a list of preconfigured rules from which you can choose. You can select a rule you want to enable and then select Enable Rule from the Actions list on the right side of the console. You can see whether a rule is enabled by noting if it is green or somewhat grayed out. You can view or modify the properties of a rule by double-clicking the rule or selecting the rule and then Properties. The property sheet includes a very detailed set of tabs to configure the rule further.

  2. You can create your own rules as well. Select the section (inbound or outbound) and then select New Rule from the Action menu. You can create one of four types: Program Rule (you pick the program path and executable name), Port Rule (enables you to finetune TCP or UDP ports you want opened or closed), Predefined Rule (for Windows functions you want to have access to your network), or Custom Rule (applies to whatever else you might think of to create if the others don’t cover your needs).
