For short distances, buses are much easier, but they should be avoided on long distances as they prove to be very tedious and tiresome.
Travelling in a bus is much the same as in a train, with the nonavailability of certain amenities. The only consolation being that it is faster and takes you quickly to your destination. If you've got your tickets booked through a travel agent, he may get you on a video coach, in which case you may be able to pass time comfortably watching movies.

There is one person I know of, who once travelled by one of these video coaches from Delhi to Meerut. They were a showing a new movie that day. He liked the movie and was watching it very intensely. His disappointment knew no end, when the bus reached Meerut in two hours, with the movie still unfinished. Our good man, not wanting to leave the movie half-finished, went along with the bus till Khatauli where finally the movie got over. There he got down, caught another bus back to Meerut and reached home almost two-and-a-half hours late.
